Dr. Avon Hart-Johnson, Principal Researcher and Dr. Renata Hendrington Jones, Co-Principal Researcher of the Storybook Research Project reflect on the significance of the research study. "This work is poised to help with conversations about parental incarceration. Perhaps we will begin to understand the power of words rather than the silence about when a parent goes missing and is incarcerated," offered Dr. Renata.
"Caregivers play a critical role in child development. It is from the parent and caregivers, children model their behaviors. They learn how to problem solve. Therefore telling the truth is one way in which a child learns to work through difficult times, even when telling the truth is difficult. We hope that our eBooks will help children to model behaviors that strengthen their positive development," indicated Dr. Avon Hart-Johnson.
